I got a rather quizzical email from someone who got the CD and "can't get it to play". Well, it WON'T shaggin' "play", then, will it? (sigh.) They're computer files. Not audio files. How in the name of All that's Holy could I get nearly 2500 tunes on ONE CD if they were even mp3's? ................................................................... The tunes are in the following formats: NWC (Noteworthy Composer) format with a free reader/player; (This feature unavailable for MAC users without "Soft Windows" or "Virtual PC" installed) ABC format with a free reader/player; (MAC users should go to http://www.gre.ac.uk/~c.walshaw/abc/ for MAC translators) GIF format pictures of the sheet music and a link to a free image viewing program; (for PC's.... MAC has it's own picture rendering software built-in.) MIDI format which will play with your Windows Media Player or in WinAmp, RealPlayer or most other PC sound formats and on MACs via Quicktime. Well, it's not, really. You get the three books on CD (about a $40.00 value right there) and you get them translated into programs
that allow those who cannot read music to use them and learn the tunes... plus you get support (from me) in using the programs
and you also get the satisfaction of helping support the Old Music Project. Bloody invaluable, that!
The bonus materials are usually available ONLY in the research libraries of major colleges or some cities. There, you may look at
the books but you need to hand-copy the tunes if you want them for your own. Here, they're on your PC for easy access and study.
All in all, I've nearly five years invested in the CD's production.
